ran OlyMusic.com from 2002-2008, and blogged about musical experiences in and around Olympia, WA.
I feel better now, because I just got back from the open mic at Jordan Emily's, which is next to the West side Co-Op. There was lots of good music, and terrifically intense and relevant poetry. Sara won the favorite performer gift certificate for $20 of yummy food at Jordan Emily's. Sara and Taryn are playing at the Evergreen Library lobby this Friday as part of a Books for Prisoners benefit. There's a potluck starting around 7, and some good Bluegrass music too. Both Sara and Taryn, whose names I hope I'm spelling right, sang and played beautifully individually at the open mic, and I'm psyched to hear them sing and play together at the Books for Prisoners benefit at Evergreen.
So, last night on my way home, I had occasion to stop by Java Flow
in the 10 minutes between when my bus got there, and it was leaving again.
Safe and Sane were playing, and Leon House was there and gave me a demo,
and this flyer.
I felt sad because I planned to go home for dinner, and I had just added this band to the band page, and also, Leon linked to OlyMusic from over at
the skiptracers.
It's probably late to mention this, but there's another one today - last week I went
to the first open mic at Jordan Emily's, hosted by Franco from
Locust Street Taxi - it was a good group of people, and I was sorry to get there so late - I've gotta start getting to more shows, cause I keep missing them and being sorry. Like last night on the calendar I saw
One Nation Undereducated was playing at Le Voyeur, and I have been meaning to go see them too. Tracy from ONU was at the open mic last week, and I got there too late to hear him, but I did hear a girl telling him that he sounds kind of like Nick Drake, which I think is some good praise.
Happy Thanksgiving. had good food with friends and played with loops and 4-track.
I'm thinking that if anyone else out there wants to make a weblog of your OlyMusic experiences, we can certainly put the page up for folks to read - maybe you are in a band, and have stuff to say about the scene, venues, crowds, how it feels -maybe you go to shows and want to post reviews - anyhow, if you want to have a blog at olymusic.com/yerblog, hit that contact link and tell me what you want your page-name to be.
Peace
Added some bands today:
Safe and Sane
Sweet Rock and Mr. Tommy
Worth-It
and also added
TSTP Olympia to the resource links page.
It published! It published!
Dang. Still can't get this thing to publish.
So Three is playing tonight, not last night, so I'm gonna go see them even though I feel dizzy sick.
I really like One-Eyed Spectacle, but I have no desire to see A-Kamp right now.
I'm sad today because I wanted to go see Three, and also Scream Club, but instead I was home. But I got some bands added. Worth-It, Smilin Jon, and Quiet Please.
Well, it's been a day, and I haven't gotten this to publish yet. It keeps giving me an access error.
Maybe I need to edit the file permissions on this file on the webserver...
Hello and welcome to my OlyMusic blog!
This blog thing is an exciting concept -
to me it means anyone and everyone can be a published show reviewer - WoW.
