Saturday night I went to the Locust Street Taxi CD release party at The Matrix for their new Live Cd "Out of the Tree". This CD has a lot of my favorite LST songs on it, including Mister Carter, The Cow Song, The Rap, Red Head, and also has LST covering the Muppets Theme Song. The show was awesome. All the band members I ever knew about were there playing, and some that I didn't know about, like the first original drummer. The interplay between trumpet and trombone made me feel so happy. They were on another plane. Musically, and creatively, these guys are the best I know of. They are generally light hearted, the songs make me feel good, and force me to dance. My thing about dancing to music is, sometimes you go to a show, and the second the band starts, people start to dance, whether there is any groove yet or not, and you know that they came to dance, and they don't really care if the music makes them move or not, 'cause they're gonna move. Me, I am not like that. I will sit there like a lump 'til the music actually rocks me to a semi upright gyrating position. And let me just say that LST rocks me to a semi upright gyrating position. It started with the foot tapping, and then I had to drum on my knees, and then my head was getting bopped back and forth by the alternating blasts from the trumpet and trombone, and Darick's basslines generally rumble me to a slightly levitated state to begin with, and anyhow, catch this band anytime and every time you get the chance. You will be pleased.
