Saw the Radiators the other day at the Eagles Hall

Yeah, the Radiators were rad. Got me dancin and kept me dancin.
Here's a tidbit gleaned from Google news alerts on Olympia Music Scene:
The late Elliott Smith's 1999 performance at Olympia, Washington's YoYo a GoGo festival will be released on DVD November 30. "Elliott Smith: Olympia, Washington" features Smith's entire 40-minute solo performance. Smith's final album, From a Basement on the Hill, will be released on October 19. ...

And a fellow named Greg has put together a Northwest Music site: Wreckd.com Check it out.

Here's a link to an article about Calvin etc.: http://www.chartattack.com/damn/2004/09/2309.cfm , and I hope you all checked out at least some of the Yeah Fest

Oh, and Tommy, you all know Tommy - he updated his Blog!

I'm never able to resist doing the personality tests Lars does.

So I'm a hub person, just like him. That makes sense. I like that better than the time he did a good/evil test that showed he was good, and then I did it and it showed that I'm neutral. Anyhow, there are some new bands on the bands page, and the little chatterthingy at the top of the site seems like it's working better than last week, after changing the script completely. Y'all should make the calendar bump with your favorite upcoming events.

Got to hear the Tune Stranglers last night, and the end of the YEAH festival on Sunday.

Coupla nights of good music. Last night, went to the Brotherhood and caught the Tune Stranglers. Really good stuff. Swing-danceable old timey fiddlin banjo washboard upright bass coupla guitars just great singing and atmosphere. Wonderful show. Definitely will go back for more, since they do every Monday night there. They also have a show coming up at the Capitol Theatre. The night before, caught some bands at the end of the YEAH fest, over at the Eagles hall. Great building. Heard the duo Sedan, a drums and keyboard duo with remarkable technical ability and wonderful feeling to their music. Got one of their CDs. Hypnotically soothing while parts of it had me tapping my foot a bit. Also heard The Strangers and had a rollicking good time dancing to their turkish reel sounding jumps me up and down when I feel the music music. Good good stuff. And what someone told me was the last Bangs show ever. Had a good time dancing to their music too.

Last night

Went to the Midnight Sun after work. I hadn't been to a show there before, and I liked the space a lot. Good energy with the group of people there last night. The I Love Ryans were terrific, I really enjoy what they do. They are fun. Mostly they just radiate good energy while playing music that makes me want to twitch around rhythmically. That Rhodes guitar sounding keyboard is sweet and played well, and some excellent drumming and guitar work was also observed. After they played I went looking for pizza up at Old School, but alas it has not reopened yet after the fire there. SO I went back and there was a band playing that I didn't catch the name of - they were pretty loud thump thump bang bang crash crash kinda thing. I could sorta almost get into it, but I have a hard time with that. There were some guys thrash dancing around obviously loving it, and I think I heard someone shout "straight-edge!" in that angry straight-edge hard core grr kind of way that I remember people shouting in high school... I bopped my head for a while but started getting very thirsty, so I went over to Hannah's and got a beer and read The Sitting Duck. Then went back and Vaya was setting up. They set up for a bit and then they started washing waves of sound over us. Swirling Keyboard & Guitar by a guy who looked vaguely familiar, Drums (played by Jason Kilgore, soon to be at the Art Institute in Seattle) and Bass played solidly by a slightly older looking gentleman who also looked vaguely familiar. The music had a strangely sad feeling for me while at the same time being rocking and a little jazzy. The way they layer their sound is cool, particularly the vocals on the last song, and some of the guitar riffs that went with a vocal. It was their last show, hopefully we will hear more from them all at some point in the future.

Hmm, maybe I should update the Blog once in a while!

So, I haven't updated this since the OlyMusic 2004 festival, cause I'm like, shy, and I played a little set at that. Tommy was like "There needs to be an OlyMusic Fest" and I was like cool, name the place time and bands, and then it was some good music at Le Voyeur and I remember Casey had the superman cape and people drew monkeys and stuff like that after the show and yeah, it was fun. I went to Bumbershoot on Monday and saw the Marley Bros. and the Pixies and Galactic and this group that has giant harps and an orb of drums. It was sweet. Hmm, what other shows have I been to lately? I wrack my brain. I really have been to some... Oh, right, there was the one with Chuck Swaim's new band at Le Voyeur... that was neat-o, kind of minimalistic and very grabbing of the gut internally feelingwise... there was The Strangers at the Free Radio Olympia fest: That got me dancin! Ummm... what else... hmm... the James Whiton trio at the Eastside was pretty excellent, I'm not sure how long ago that was, oh, a great party that Covenant played. That, was sweet too. Well, that's all for now. Enough to let you know I still exist and go to shows. Oh, and I'm planning to go to the midnight sun tonight to catch Vaya's last show, so maybe I'll see or saw you there. Peace, Love, Music YEAH
